Jakarta, March 7, 2026 - HDI hosted its National Health Seminar entitled: “BEYOND THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PROPOLIS SCIENCE: CLINICAL EVIDENCE BEHIND HDI PROPOELIX™”
Held at the Grand Mercure Harmoni Hotel, Jakarta, the seminar marked a significant milestone with the official publication of the 25th clinical study on HDI Propoelix™, conducted at a Vertical Hospital under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The research was initiated following HDI’s 2025 healthcare support program, where products were donated to frontline healthcare workers in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. This initiative subsequently evolved into a scientific partnership and hospital-based clinical evaluation.
Three Scientific Perspectives in One Forum
The seminar brought together three distinguished speakers from academic and clinical backgrounds: Dr. Muhamad Sahlan, S.Si., M.Eng., academic and researcher from the University of Indonesia; dr. Ivan Hoesada, M.Biomed from HIDUP Expert Panel; and dr. H. Harli Amir Mahmudji, Sp.PD-KEMD, Head of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at RS Soerojo Magelang and Lead Investigator of HDI Propoelix™ study. The forum explored the fundamental science of propolis, the research journey from experimental studies to hospital-based clinical trials, and its implications for medical practice. The seminar reaffirmed the importance of integrating natural products, including propolis, within the framework of evidence-based medicine, while encouraging sustainable collaboration between industry, academia, and healthcare institutions in Indonesia.
Dr. Muhamad Sahlan, S.Si., M.Eng., academic and researcher from the University of Indonesia, stated: “Propolis is a natural substance with a highly complex composition of bioactive compounds. The key challenge lies in ensuring proper standardization and robust scientific validation so that it can be accepted within modern medical practice. Efforts such as those undertaken by HDI play an important role in bridging fundamental science with clinical applications,” said Dr. Sahlan.
The discussion forms part of a broader effort to strengthen the role of natural products within the framework of evidence-based medicine, while encouraging sustainable collaboration between industry, academia, and healthcare institutions in Indonesia.
Adding to this perspective, dr. Ivan Hoesada, M.Biomed, from the HIDUP Expert Panel, explained: “In clinical practice, an evidence-based approach is essential. Natural product-based therapies such as propolis hold significant potential, but they must be supported by strong clinical data to ensure they can be used responsibly as complementary therapies,” said dr. Ivan.
Through this seminar, HDI aims to advance Indonesia’s scientific body of evidence in bee-based healthcare and establish stronger clinical credibility for natural bee-derived products.
Publication of Government Hospital-Based Clinical Research
The clinical study conducted at RS Soerojo Magelang involved adult patients with metabolic conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. The study was led by dr. H. Harli Amir Mahmudji, Sp.PD-KEMD, Head of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) of RS Soerojo Magelang, who explained: “The results of this study indicate that the consumption of HDI Propoelix™ under medical supervision shows potential benefits of propolis in supporting immune system balance and certain metabolic parameters, particularly in patients with metabolic conditions. Importantly, all interventions were conducted under medical supervision, with favorable safety outcomes,” he stated.
